Delayed Nintendo Direct Presentation Gets A New Date

Nintendo has announced new timing details for its next Nintendo Direct broadcast. The presentation, which was originally scheduled to air last week but was delayed due to a severe earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan, will now air around the world this Thursday, September 13.

As Nintendo previously revealed, the upcoming Direct will run approximately 35 minutes, suggesting it will be filled with a lot of announcements and trailers. Nintendo says the broadcast will focus on upcoming titles for both Switch and 3DS, but beyond that, the company hasn't shared any specifics on what to expect from the presentation.

North America's Direct kicks off at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET, while Europe's stream begins at 11 PM BST. You'll be able to watch the presentation directly on Nintendo's official website and Twitch channel. GameSpot will also have a stream of the presentation, so you can tune in right here and watch it unfold.

Among the topics we know Nintendo will discuss during tomorrow's Direct is the upcoming paid Nintendo Switch Online service. Nintendo confirmed on Twitter that the service will officially launch next week, on September 18, and that more information will be revealed during Thursday's presentation.

While Nintendo has already announced many details about Nintendo Switch Online, including its pricing tiers and the various benefits subscribers will receive such as cloud saves for most Switch games, there are still many things we don't know about the service. Most notably, Nintendo still hasn't revealed the full lineup of games available in Nintendo Switch Online's NES library. Subscribers will have access to 20 classic NES titles--with added online play--right when the service launches, with more to be added "regularly," but the company has only revealed half of the selection.

As far as what games Nintendo will showcase during the broadcast, we'll presumably get another look at some titles that were conspicuously missing from Nintendo's E3 2018 presentation, such as the untitled Yoshi game for Switch. We'll also likely learn new details on some of this season's biggest Switch titles, such as Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Microsoft to 'warn' Windows 10 users not to install Chrome or Firefox

Microsoft is getting ready to warn Windows 10 users not to install Chrome or Firefox. The software giant is in the final stages of testing its Windows 10 October 2018 Update, and testers have spotted a new change that appears when you try to install a rival web browser. "You already have Microsoft Edge – the safer, faster browser for Windows 10" says a prompt that appears when you run the Chrome or Firefox installers on the latest Windows 10 October 2018 Update.

While the prompts can be turned off, they're yet another example of Microsoft infesting Windows 10 with annoying ads and pop-ups. Some similar prompts already appear and attempt to push Chrome or Firefox users to use Edge, but this latest one steps up Microsoft's war against Chrome even further. It's not clear why Microsoft thinks it's a good idea to include these irritating prompts, as all they're likely to do is anger Windows 10 users rather than convince them to switch to Edge.

Microsoft has previously pushed notifications to Chrome users to tempt them to switch to Edge, used OneDrive ads in File Explorer, and preloads a variety of crapware apps in Windows 10. Microsoft tried a similar push to force Windows 10 Mail users to use Edge for all email links, but the company reversed the change after a backlash. This prompt is more of an irritating one off when you first install another browser, but the feedback will be another test for Microsoft's "Windows as a service" model that relies on testers to provide responses to the company's ongoing changes.
