PS5 Price May Dip Below $400, Analyst Speculates - Push Square Posted: 15 Sep 2020 05:30 AM PDT How much will the PlayStation 5 cost? We should find out officially during the PS5 Showcase Event tomorrow, but Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Masahiro Wakasugi believes that the console could be priced as low as $449 – while its digital counterpart could "dip below $400". That would be outrageously aggressive pricing for a system that many are expecting to pay upwards of $500 for. News overnight speculated that the Japanese giant would have to cut production this fiscal year by four million units due to lower than expected component yields, although this would still result in around 11 million units being manufactured by the end of March 2021 – a number which should culminate in higher initial shipments than even the wildly successful PlayStation 4. Sony is clearly planning for a gigantic launch, and has iterated on multiple occasions that it intends to transition fans at an unprecedented pace. This would all suggest that it's going to launch at an agreeable PS5 price point, but even with these predictions from Bloomberg, we'll need to wait for official word from the manufacturer before believing anything we read. |
Apple AirPods Pro now offer spatial audio - Engadget Posted: 15 Sep 2020 02:12 AM PDT The latest firmware update for Apple's AirPods Pro and second—generation AirPods has arrived, and it brings at least a couple of much-awaited features with it. For the AirPods Pro, build number 3A283 debuts spatial audio, which enables a surround sound effect for a movie theater-like experience. The tech giant didn't release a feature log for the firmware, but AppleInsider was able to confirm it adds a spatial audio setting within the AirPods Pro bluetooth menu. When switched on, the earbuds' accelerometer will track your head movement so the audio stays fixed even when you turn your head. Apple first revealed that it's releasing spatial audio for the Pro earbuds back in June during its virtual WWDC keynote, where it also announced that it's rolling out an AirPods feature that gives you the ability to automatically switch between Apple devices. That's the other capability that comes with firmware 3A283. Quick switching can automatically transfer an AirPods' connection from an iPad to a Mac, for instance, if you're done listening to a podcast on the tablet and switch to a computer to watch a movie. Another possible scenario is automatically switching from a Mac to an iPhone when a call comes in. Take note, however, that you may have to install iOS 14 and macOS Big Sur — or their beta versions for now — to be able to enjoy spatial audio and quick switching. |
