Yesterday saw record AAPL Q3 earnings, dramatically beating analyst expectations, and Jason Snell has once again turned all the key numbers into beautifully easy-to-digest color charts.

Heading up the charts (above) is a breakdown of where that $81B revenue came from, with almost exactly half of it from iPhone …

AAPL revenue was up 36% year-on-year.

Apple (AAPL) has officially reported its earnings for fiscal Q3 2021, covering the months of April, May, and June. For the quarter, Apple reported $81.43 billion in revenue, up 36 percent year over year, and profit of $21.74 billion. It reported earnings-per-share of $1.30.

This compares to the revenue of $59.7 billion and profit of $11.25 billion the company posted for the same quarter last year.

CFO Luca Maestri was in an understandably celebratory mood.

Our record June quarter operating performance included new revenue records in each of our geographic segments, double-digit growth in each of our product categories, and a new all-time high for our installed base of active devices. We generated $21 billion of operating cash flow, returned nearly $29 billion to our shareholders during the quarter, and continued to make significant investments across our business to support our long-term growth plans.

While the year-on-year growth wasn't as dramatic as the previous quarter, it's still a standout quarter.

iPhone revenue is also exceptionally good for what is generally the company's weakest quarter, as buyers wait for the new models in the following quarter.

The growth chart for Mac really drives home how much the pandemic has boosted Mac sales, as people seek better kit for working and studying from home – the impact of M1 Macs also very visible.

If you've been one of the unlucky ones who's been forced to watch Netflix in 480p on a QHD display, there's good and bad news for you. OnePlus is finally pushing an update that fixes the issue of not being able to play HD videos on the OnePlus 7 Pro and the OnePlus 7. The bad news? Simply installing the update might not do the trick for you.

According to several users on this OnePlus forum post, which announced the update, OnePlus wants you to work for it. If you don't see the issue fixed on your device, you'll have to resort to clearing either cache of streaming apps like Netflix and Prime Video or y0ur entire system cache. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

OxygenOS 11.0.2.1 for the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro is also said to reduce power consumption, improve overheating control management, and fix File Manager crashes. While OnePlus has also bundled a security patch, it's — unsurprisingly — a month old at this point.

The system update is being rolled out in batches for the North American region. Updates to devices in European and Indian regions should follow soon. A OnePlus employee also clarifies that a similar update will soon be available for the OnePlus 7T.

Update: As was promised yesterday, new fighter Gardevoir is now available in Pokémon Unite.

Alongside the new character's inclusion, it's also been announced that "a few bugs" have been addressed, including an issue that arose when equipping Charizard with the Muscle Band. Game8 reports that the Muscle Band's effect on Charizard's Standard Attack power has been significantly reduced, suggesting that it may have been a bit too overpowered.

Original Article (Tue 27th Jul, 2021 16:45 BST): If you've been getting stuck into Pokémon Unite, the free-to-play Pokémon MOBA now available on Switch, you'll be pleased to know that the game's roster is getting a boost tomorrow.

That's right, from 28th July, the Psychic and Fairy-type Gardevoir will be gliding into battle. As you can see from the clip below, Gardevoir is a ranged attacker who'll no doubt be best suited to those who like to keep their distance during battles, rather than jumping in headfirst.

Gardevoir joins a lineup that already contains a pleasingly varied mix of characters including the likes of Pikachu (of course), Crustle, Absol, Gengar, and more. Here's the current full lineup:

Remember, Zeraora is available as a free bonus for all players who log in to the Switch version of the game by 31st August.
