Another Samsung Galaxy S21 FE leak shows the device from more angles - The Verge Posted: 13 Nov 2021 09:56 AM PST The yet-to-be-announced Samsung Galaxy S21 Fan Edition (FE) has become the victim of another leak, according to a report by Android Police. Just like its S20 FE predecessor, which serves as the affordable counterpart to the S20, the S21 FE is supposed to be the budget-friendly alternative to the flagship S21. Marketing images leaked by Coinbrs show several images of the device, and it, unsurprisingly, closely resembles the S21. The images show us much of what we saw in the S21 FE's user manual that was previously leaked in September. As noted by Coinbrs, the device will reportedly have three cameras on its rear: a main 64MP sensor, a depth sensor, and an ultra-wide-angle sensor. On the front, it's said to have a hole-punch notch housing a 32MP selfie camera, along with an in-display fingerprint scanner. When compared to the S21 base model's 6.2-inch display, the S21 FE is rumored to have a slightly bigger screen than its premium counterpart, sporting a 6.4-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display. Coinbrs says that it may also have a larger 4,500mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging — a small upgrade from the S21's 4,000mAh battery. In terms of processing power, Coinbrs expects it to either come with the Snapdragon 888 or the Exynos 2100 chip depending on the market, as well as up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. In June, we weren't sure there was going to be an S21 FE at all — the ongoing chip shortage spurred rumors that Samsung may be halting the phone's production. The S21 FE still hasn't been officially confirmed by Samsung, but Coinbrs claims that the company will officially reveal the phone on January 4th. |
Google Camera update brings some Pixel 6 features to older Pixel phones - XDA Developers Posted: 13 Nov 2021 10:42 AM PST The Google Pixel 6 pioneered a number of camera features such as Face Unblur, Magic Eraser, and Action Pan. Those features are Pixel 6 exclusive as far as we can tell, but there was some other quality of life improvements too. Features such as the ability to modify exposure and "Timer Light" were also added, and now you can get those features on older Google Pixel smartphones. Google Camera 8.4 is available, and it can be sideloaded on your smartphone now. This update to Google Camera isn't available on the Google Play Store yet for most users, but you can grab it from APKMirror. I sideloaded it on my Google Pixel 5 and it crashed repeatedly, but it worked fine on my Google Pixel 4a. Your mileage may therefore vary. Read more: Google Pixel 6 Pro Camera Review: Hardware that is finally worthy of Google's AI smarts Both Timer Light and the ability to modify the exposure debuted on the Google Pixel 6. You can disable the exposure option if you'd prefer to let the phone do the work for you and to have an uncluttered camera viewfinder, but it's always nice to have more options to play with. As for Timer Light, it uses the flash on the back of your phone as a countdown. Finally, the arrow at the bottom that brings down the settings has also been modified so that it will show either a settings cog or a half-moon when auto night sight is enabled. This makes it clearer for users to know where to go to disable night sight or how to access their camera's settings if they want to. On account of the left punch-hole on the Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a, this has been moved to the middle, instead of on the left-hand side like on the Pixel 6 series. While it's unlikely we'll see some of the other Pixel 6 features coming to these older devices, you can still get the Pixel 6's Magic Eraser on older Pixels thanks to Google Photos. Let us know in the comments if you do sideload the latest Google Camera update and if it works for you or not. |
Posted: 13 Nov 2021 12:55 PM PST Yesterday, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition disappeared from sale on PC less than 24 hours after launch. At the same time, the Rockstar Games launcher also fell offline - the only place the PC version was available. Now, the launcher is back, but the Definitive Edition remains unavaiable to buy or play while Rockstar "remove files unintentionally included in these versions." It was tempting to wonder, when the remasters disappeared, whether it was due to them being a glitchy, ugly mess. That's not the reason Rockstar gave via Twitter:
"The Rockstar Games Launcher is now online, but GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is unavailable to play or purchase as we remove files unintentionally included in these versions," says the message. "We're sorry for the disruption and hope to have correct ones up soon." Shortly after release, a dataminer discovered that the PC release shipped with songs cut from the game due to licensing issues. The game does not play these songs, but they remain among the files. Another player also discovered uncompiled code in among the files, letting people see, for example, comments left by the original game's programmers. This isn't the first time Rockstar have had problems with "cut content" being still present in shipped versions of Grand Theft Auto. In 2005, the Hot Coffee" mod for GTA: San Andreas re-enabled a sex minigame that had been cut but which was still present within the game's files, prompting enormous media controversy, its re-rating in the United States, and its removal from sale in some countries. It's worth noting that in this instance the Definitive Edition was not produced internally by Rockstar, but farmed out to Grove Street Studios. I look forward to the games returning to the store so I can buy it and look at the crappy character models myself, but it feels particularly egregious that the game is also currently unavailable to play for those who already bought it. What a mess - and the complete opposite of what people expect from a supposed "Definitive Edition". |
