People who fall victim to crimes in their home will soon have a new way to get help, with Scotland Yard developing technology that will allow us to use voice-controlled devices in an emergency.

Under plans being developed by Britain’s largest police force, crime victims will simply be able to shout for help from services such as Amazon’s Alexa or Google’s Assistant to alert police.

Documents seen by The Sunday Times reveal that Scotland Yard believes voice-activated “personal assistants” — currently used by almost 3m UK households to play music, deliver news or control the central heating — will “change the face of police contact”…
