‘Ghost Of Tsushima’ Is PS4's 17th Best Scored Exclusive, Which Says A Lot - Forbes

Posted: 17 Jul 2020 06:19 AM PDT

It's official release day for Ghost of Tsushima from Infamous dev Sucker Punch, and PlayStation fans can't wait to get their hands on it.

By all accounts, the buzz around Ghost of Tsushima seems pretty positive, and the worst thing anyone has to say about it is that its open world can feel a bit generic for the current landscape of gaming, but it's scored well, an 83 on Metacritic.

Though I thought that with Ghost of Tsushima probably being the last "large" exclusive release before the arrival of PS5 this fall, I'd try to look at it in a larger context. And that context shows just a phenomenal run of games for PS4 over this past generation.

Ghost of Tshusima's respectable 83 on Metacritic actually makes it what I believe is the 17th best reviewed PS4 exclusive this generation. That may sound kind of bad until you look at the master list and see the caliber of games on it.

I cut a few that had less than ten reviews, some of these have gotten on PC eventually, and I may have missed one or two after going through about 200 games, but here's the list I came up with, which has Tsushima in the 17th spot.

  • 1. Persona 5 Royal (95)
  • 2. The Last of Us Remastered (95)
  • 3. God of War (94)
  • 4. The Last of Us Part 2 (94)
  • 5. Persona 5 (93)
  • 6. Uncharted 4 (93)
  • 7. Journey (92)
  • 8. Bloodborne (92)
  • 9. Dreams (89)
  • 10. Horizon Zero Dawn (89)
  • 11. Nioh (88)
  • 12. Spider-Man (87)
  • 13. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (86)
  • 14. Nioh 2 (85)
  • 15. Ratchet And Clank (85)
  • 16. Uncharted Lost Legacy (84)
  • 17. Ghost of Tsushima (83)

If there's a reason that both Sony and PlayStation fans are confident about PS5's future, even with a pretty anemic exclusive line-up at launch, it's that list. A generation of monster titles, many of which are likely to see further quality sequels next gen.

Microsoft has plenty of great exclusives too! But putting the lists side by side (I may do that in a later post), the only two exclusives this generation that scored a 90 or above were two Forza games and Ori. High profile entries in high profile series are on the lower end of a list like this (Gears 5 and Halo 5 both at an 84). But Microsoft is gearing up for a whole bunch of new first party games for Series X, so we'll see what happens there.

But yeah, it's quite a generation if Ghost of Tsushima is considered a "lower" scored exclusive. Off to play for myself now.

Lenovo's next gaming phone has a camera that pops out of its side - Engadget

Lenovo's Legion gaming phone could have a pop-out side camera
Lenovo (Weibo)

Lenovo is about to release a high-spec gaming phone with a rarely (if ever) seen feature, according to a listing from the Chinese site JD.com (via 91mobiles). The Legion smartphone packs a 20-megapixel pop-up selfie camera located on the side, smack in the middle. That could make it easier to stream yourself while gaming in landscape mode or just be the first on the block with a weird new feature.

Consistent with the phone's sporty nature, the camera will pop up in just 0.496 seconds and retract in 0.5 seconds. That would make it the fastest pop-up camera yet, according to Lenovo, and it will have a lifespan of over 400,000 activations.

Apart from the selfie camera gimmick, the Legion phone has an impressive spec sheet. It packs a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 144 Hz refresh rate and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and 90 watt fast charging. You'd also get a 64-megapixel main and 16-megapixel wide-angle cameras, along with dual front speakers, RGB lighting and aggressive Legion branding.

According to a Lenovo video in the listing, the phone will be released in China on July 22nd for around RS 50,000, or about $670. There's no word yet on whether it will come to North America or Europe.

PS5 DualSense Controller: Best Look Yet Revealed - ComicBook.com

Posted: 16 Jul 2020 12:41 PM PDT

PlayStation, via Geoff Keighley, has revealed our best look yet at the PS5 DualSense controller, Sony's first new controller since retiring the DualShock with the PS4. Taking to Twitter, the host of The Game Awards shared a new video of him holding the controller in real life. In the past, unverifiable leaks have shown the controller IRL, but this is our first official and clear look at what the controller actually looks like in hands.

In the video, Keighley teases that tomorrow, he will go hands-on with the controller and provide his impressions. In other words, tomorrow we will get a plethora of new details about the DualSense, plus feedback on how it is. At the moment, it's unclear if these impressions will be limited to just Keighley, but you'd assume others have already gotten their hands on the PS5 controller early.

Unfortunately, Keighley doesn't reveal the back of the controller, which we still haven't seen yet. Of course, this may suggest there's a surprise or two waiting back there. That said, it's safe to assume tomorrow's impressions will include word on the back of the controller, plus any other feature Sony hasn't revealed yet.

Keighley doesn't say how the controller will be shown, but there's a chance we will get new PS5 gameplay alongside the controller demonstration. However, for now, this is just speculation.

Below, you can check out the teaser for yourself:

As you can see, the PS5 controller is similar in size to the PS4 controller, but it's a bigger and beefier. In fact, more so than ever, it looks like the PS4 DualShock 4 with a little bit of the Xbox One controller injected into the DNA. Will this new design be more comfortable and practical? Who knows, but we should get a better idea tomorrow.

The PlayStation 5 is scheduled to release worldwide sometime this holiday season. For more news, rumors, leaks, and every other type of coverage on the PS5 click here or check out the relevant links below:
